Before you install the drivers Canon Pixma iP8740 & iP8750 Series Ink Multifunction, you should first check the specifications Canon is used which includes the type of printer and OS used on the computer device.
Important Information
PIXMA iP8740 / PIXMA iP8750 – Latest Firmware Update & Password Setup [Version 1.050 – Added 25 September 2014]
Canon today announces enhanced security measures for PIXMA inkjet printer models sold since June 2013 onwards.
Newer Canon products (produced since June 2014) will have these security measures pre-installed at production.
It is recommended that any printer connected to a wired or wireless network has this firmware installed in order to enhance security with the remote user interface functionality.
This firmware will install a password for your PIXMA printer as an enhanced security measure.
Helpful Information
If the Firmware is already Version 1.050, then it is not necessary for you to update your firmware as you already hold the latest version.
You can identify the specific firmware version on your printer by checking the ‘Nozzle Check Pattern’. Please refer to the product manual (available online via our Support sites) for your specific model for detailed information on how to do this as this varies from model to model.

Please ensure that your computer and PIXMA printer are switched on and connected. For instructions on how to update the firmware follow the link below.
How to update Firmware for iP8740/iP8750
Once the firmware has been downloaded and updated, please follow the following steps to set a secure password on your printer that will prevent your printer settings from being changed by any unauthorized user
1. Determine the Internet Protocol (IP) address of your printer
Hold down the Stop button until the Alarm lamp flashes 6 times then release the button. Your network setup information containing the IP address of your printer will be printed out. (this requires one sheet of A4 size or Letter size plain paper).
2. Open a web browser on your computer (eg. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome etc.) and enter the IP address of you printer as shown below.
3. http://< IP address>
For example, if the IP address of your printer is 123.456.789.0 http://123.456.789.0 is what needs to be entered in the web browser field after http://
4. A remote User Interface (UI) will now be displayed and you may then set up a password as follows:
Step 1. Select ‘Security’
Step 2. Select ‘Administrator password setting’
Step 3. Select ‘Yes’
Step 4. Select ‘Ok’
Step 5. Create a new password using up to a maximum of 32 letters and numbers. The password will be case sensitive. Please try and use a unique, secure password.
Step 6. Please re-enter the password to reconfirm your selection
Please securely retain the password information for your records.
This now completes the set-up of a password on your printer user interface, which offers enhanced security for your Canon product.
